Can someone verify to me that the carbon dioxide concentration in a closed/sealed system or terrarium lowers in day time? Our goal is to determine the carbon dioxide intake of a plant a plant. The flow of our project is that we are to maintain a specific value of carbon dioxide concentration in the air, then after we light the plants for a certain amount of time, we concluded that the carbon dioxide concentration will lower because of the co2 intake of plants. is our idea correct? Then we will subtract the original amount of carbon dioxide concentration to the new carbon dioxide concentration to identify the carbon dioxide intake of the plant. NOTE THAT THIS IS A CLOSED SYSTEM
You will need a CO2 chemostat. This will be made by a CO2 analyser, an air pump and a lighting roof. Soil and plants would respire at night and during day there will be a lowering due to photosynthesis. If the system is closed CO2 would rise for the small contribution of leaves by the weight proportion relative to soil and root. You're describing the flux chamber method. Your basic assumption is correct, but of course there are caveats. In short, your measurement may disturb your system. I'm no expert on this, but here is a study in which the method was used: dx.doi.org/10.1111/gcb.13558
This study aimed for highest accuracy, so the equipment used might be overkill for your purpose.
