So I was creating a label file for my CT dataset at home with a free trial version of Amira, which is the most current version I believe (2019.1).
When I tried to show my current results to my supervisor at the university PC (which has Amira 6.4 installed), the software was not able to open the label file, even though the data set from which it was created is exactly the same!
Opening the label file in Amira 6.7 worked without any problems, however!
So my question would be if there is a known backwards compatibility issue with Amira 6.4 or is there something else I may have missed?
Is there any other solution on how I could get my label files to open in older Amira?

Yes, it seems that version 6.4 cannot read the label-fields from version 6.7 upwards.
As a work-around, you could export your label-field as a grey-value image. I suggest DICOM format, because then all geometry information is conserved.
You can then load the DICOM files in Amira 6.4 and convert it to a label-field using "Convert Image Type". Make sure you select as output-type "label" with enough bits.
Well, there is another workaround:
The problem is caused by additional/changed header entries in the latest versions. They contain the symbol "&", which causes parse errors in old versions.
You could replace all occurrences of "&" in the ASCII header of the file with something harmless , for instance "_".
Then you should be able to load the file in version 6.4 and earlier.
Beware of replacing in the binary data-section!
What's the exact extension of your file? Did you try to aviso instead of Amira?
There is a solution by using one specific version of Amira. Amira 6.5 can read the new format (Amira Mesh binary 3.0), but saves in the previous format (Amira Mesh binary 2.1).
Would be nice if these changes were documented in the release notes.
