I am trying to research Agency in dreams, and seeing as there is isn't a specific scale to measure dream agency, I thought about adapting a known agency scale.
For example the item "I Feel in control of what I do" would change to "I feel in control of what I do in the dream" and so forth.
Is this methodologically flawed? or is it possible to do?
keep in mind I am not talking about Lucid dreams.
There's nothing wrong with using an old measure to help create a new measure. You have to start somewhere, after all. However, it shouldn't be assumed that items which are valid for one construct are also valid when adapted to assess a different construct. Once the adapted measure seems valid on it's face, I recommend collecting data and conducting some factor analyses (and other relevant analyses), so you can be more confident of the measure's validity. This will also help you determine if and how the measure needs to be modified.
Hi! I don't think is possible provided that any semantic change, even only one word, may change the content that is measured by an item. More convenient practice is the exam of psychometric quality of any scale after doing any change.
I think that if you make changes you should analyze the psychometric properties of the test with the changes. Validity can be affected, as it may be another construct.
