I make my style of supervision clear to my students at the outset: punctuality, hard work, and learning while doing.

The first thing I require of my students is the methodology chapter. Once this is agreed upon, they can proceed with the Review. I alternately look at their chapters while they are working on other chapters. Eventually, they send me their finished manuscript for a final look. I never relegate any work of supervision to junior colleagues or other graduate students because I have responsibility of methodology and content to assume.

While in my own country, I used to receive my students either in my office or at home, which is my preferred way of supervision. In Saudi Arabia, this is not possible with female students (since male students are required to do their postgraduate studies abroad), which leaves me with online supervision through email or Skype..
