If a paper is sent to a journal and it has been reviewed but not yet published, Is it possible to write the Editor in chief that you are no longer interested in publishing in the journal because you are just aware that they are not well indexed?
Hi Dorcas, unless there is some type of obligation involved after review and if it's not yet published, I don't see why you can't write the editor and inform him or her that you're withdrawing the paper. I would think that a polite message indicating withdrawal would be sufficient. Just check to see whether you're obligated for any review fees and such.

For as long as the author did not transfer the copy rights to the publisher, the paper is his/her intellectual property. I doubt the publisher will not allow the author to withdraw the paper, so I see no problem at all here.
Sure you can, you might just need to send an email and explain the situation POLITELY. I assume if it has gone through peer review, it might not be seen in good light.
