Greetings, I am commencing the follow-up quantitative phase of my thesis research. I don't have a specific question at the moment but am looking for your recommendations on online sources or texts that provide integrated guidance on designing a survey with subsequent statistical analysis in mind. e.g.
-pros and cons and guidance on using existing items from the literature
- designing a questionnaire with statistics in mind e.g. single items, multiple items to form scales etc

If you are going to do a quantitative survey, here are some books you might consider:
Thompson, S.K.(2012), Sampling, 3rd ed, John Wiley & Sons.
This book is good, and I think it is tied in with a lot of the online material on survey sampling by Pennsylvania State University, which you might find starting at the following URL:

What I have seen of that material has generally looked good to me.
Cochran, W.G(1977), Sampling Techniques, 3rd ed., John Wiley & Sons.
Cochran's book is a classic. It is compact and covers a great deal. There is a little on modeling in there, but it is basically on the probabilistic designs for inference that I assume you want. Information is given on sample size for simple random sampling in one chapter, and then additional information for other designs appear in other chapters. Note that when you have information to subdivide your population, stratified random sampling can be very helpful. Note that there the goal is to obtain better overall results. If you want good results for each category, then you may need more data.

Hansen, M.H., Hurwitz W.N. and Madow, W.G. (1953). Sample Survey Methods and Theory (2 vols.) (Republished 1993) Wiley, New York. ... Another classic, but they tried to stay away from models more.
Blair, E. and Blair, J(2015), Applied Survey Sampling, Sage Publications.
One might say that this book is more elementary but could still be very informative.
Lohr, S.L(2010), Sampling: Design and Analysis, 2nd ed., Brooks/Cole.
Lohr, in my opinion, writes clearly.
Särndal, CE, Swensson, B. and Wretman, J. (1992), Model Assisted Survey Sampling, Springer-Verlang.
This is a very good book which I have often referenced.
Snijkers, G., Haraldsen, G., Jones, J., and Willimack, D.K.(2013), Designing and Conducting Business Surveys, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
This book may give you some good advice about practical considerations. (There is a chapter by Paul Smith that was of more interest to me, regarding the math. Apparently a lot of people contributed to this book.)
