I am looking for a survey grade handheld GPS that can give me elevation measurement at a sub-meter accuracy. I currently use Garmin 72sc but elevation accuracy is poor. Please, suggest alternative to achieve such accuracy if necessary.
If you want to get sub-meter accuracy there is 2 possibilities:
- Buy a receiver with SBAS support (before: check that your mapping area is covered by the one of the SBAS ) and that the receiver is REALLY using SBAS to correct the raw measurements.
- Buy a receiver which gives the access to the raw measurements from the satellites (code/carrier phase) and post-process the data with a software (like RTKLib) using the precise ephemeris (SP3)....
Septentrio/Altus NR3 RTK-GNSS. With prepaid SIM card for internet access (10€/month) and EPOSA correction via NTRIP we get 8 mm horizontal accuracy at 5 Hz and 12 mm vertical accuracy in Austria.
