I am looking to see the possibility of using UAV-derived images to monitoring oil spills and oil spill-related environmental problems in swampy, coastal and land environments. Other possible areas of application in the Oil and Gas sector would also be of interest.

Work has been done previously by Baringer Resources, and further developed by British Petroleum to use eximer (UV) lasers for fluorescense of "slicks". Using these techniques, one can distinguish between naturally seeping (un refined) hydrocarbons and refined (pollutants). I believe the systems (flown in the early 90s) are all mothballed presently, but someone mentioned to me recently that there may be a newer system in operation.
