I believe wisdom and knowledge are attached to each other. Wisdom can be without knowledge or knowledge without wisdom, but each one of them enhances the other.

Dear Mahfuz rights - wisdom and knowledge are linked. But the addition of such a connection is experience. Thus important triad: knowledge - experience - wisdom.

Prof,wisdom is defined as "the application of knowledge" so wisdom is when knowledge gets to the next higher level.ie  ,synthesis and analysis

In the horizon of real and sincere knowledge, of robust and high knowledge arises wisdom. Knowledge is fundamental - no doubt about that. And yet, it is not sufficient. If at the end of the they you have come but only to know, a big part of your life may have been lost.

It is in other words that wisdom that arises from a good and solid knowledge that makes us truly human beings in the deepest and highest sense of the word.

Can wisdom be created from knowledge  as such (or from the experiences of the years of life)? Knowledge does not come with age; wisdom does!

Dear @Marwan, I think that wisdom and knowledge are strongly correlated; each is a complement of the other, so, knowledge leads to wisdom, and wisdom does not exist without knowledge.

My dear Marwan, In your wisdom you came back to us. You know we can not do well without you.

I always thought that wisdom was more on the side of practical cognition, and knowledge on the side of pure theory. If this is so, philosophy in theory can dispense with wisdom. You can cognize something without relating it to practical, everyday life. Kant, however, held the primacy of practical reason, and I would have to esteem wisdom as superior to mere knowledge. Can a wise man harness theoretical knowledge? Absolutely.

Thanks so much for the over kind words as usual. I shall spare no effort to ensure I deserve them. I have learned a lot from your wisdom (and knowledge and philosophy). Yes, I agree with you Nelson,  I would esteem wisdom as superior to mere knowledge. Let us recall and learn from the wisdom of the grandfathers.

Knowledge  might be a technical one. Several times this knowledge does not necessarily give some insight. Wisdom is a deep knowledge, not necessarily a technical one. Depending on the case, knowledge can be meaningful without wisdom, e.g engineering knowledge. The optimum case is when knoledge and wisdom are combine appropriately.

So, dear Kamal, the knowledgeable cannot necessarily be wise, because wisdom comes with age! 

Knowledge and wisdom both are highly desired and have direct corelation. More knowledge leads to strengthening of wisdom. Wisdom may be inherited by genes but knowledge need to be gained as age advances. A boy can be more wise than a gentleman / adult, though he may not be having deep knowledge.  

If you regard knowledge as collected informations which are available to your mind, knowledge sure will increase with age. Wisdom is shaped by multiple impressions to a living brain where knowledge is available. These multiple impressions need time, ergo age and available experience in the mind.

A young brain with a lot of knowledge is missing the life experience and the continuous and repeated impressions to create wisdom.

Wisdom & Knowledge regarding to "Meaning, Time, and Source":

 (1) Meaning:

'Knowledge' is information of which someone is aware. Knowledge is also used to mean the confident understanding of a subject, potentially with the ability to use it for a specific purpose.

'Wisdom' is the ability to make correct judgments and decisions. It is an intangible quality gained through our experiences in life.

(2) Time:

"Knowledge" Allows for change in response to new information or analyses. Seeks to always improve.

"Wisdom". Timeless. Wisdom is "Who we are" vs. "What we do" Wisdom governs choice, pursuit of knowledge, communication and relationships.

(3) Source:

"Knowledge". Learning, education, science, reflection, reasoned and logical thought.

"Wisdom". Self. Intuition. Our personal experience. Wisdom defines and refines our character. "Character is simply who we are and is the persona and identity of everything we do."

In common language, we often mix the concepts of intelligence, knowledge, understanding, and wisdom as well as their relationship with education. In my recent book (attached), pages 22-26, I have tried to define these topics. The book discusses intelligence as a potential to do something useful and wisdom as a personal pattern of how we do it, i.e. our choices of actions in relation to our own needs and the demands of our environment. Consequently, the adjectives intelligent and stupid describe the opposite end points of intelligence, and wise and fool those of wisdom. Intelligence, as a part of our cognitive capabilities, has been a central theme in psychological research. Wisdom has not been, in a similar way, a scientific topic, even though many philosophers have contemplated on it and some esoteric disciplines have provided education on this topic. It is clear that humans are not short of intelligence, as manifested by our ability to develop all kinds of knowledge, technologies, and institutions. Probably there is a shortage of wisdom because we have not been able to provide a decent living for everyone. Intelligence is needed to process information. Information presents data in a systematic way to yield order and meaning. Data consists of facts, observations, or measures that have been recorded. Knowledge emerges when information is understood, i.e. knowledge is bound to the available information. Therefore, obviously the correctness of any knowledge cannot be better than that of the original data and information.
