In TOPSIS, say for price criteria i decided to rank the alternatives from 1 to 5 , where 1 being cheapest item and 5 being most expensive one. At the same time for another criteria say credit period i use likert scale from 1 - 7, 1 being very flexible and 7 being very strict or rigid policy. How can these both ranks and ratings be used together in the analysis by TOPSIS?
TOPSIS by itself is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method, so your case as you described should be solvable by TOPSIS. Have you tried Wikipedia's explanation of the method? You should have a look then try it by yourself. In the course of investigating, you can describe more specifically what is the obstacle so people can help you better, I think.
