I have found that Petrel software can be used in conjunction with MATLAB to create plug in or access datasets and other features (workflow, create window...etc.).
I have also found that we can connect Petrel with Visual Studio using C# language via a library in visual studio supported by Schlumberger.
My question is there something similar in Python to create a plug in for Petrel or create a custom workflow for Petrel?

Schlumberger built a REST API exposing some of the Petrel objects and is busy expanding the scope. In basic form it can greatly facilitate access to data in a Python world from a Petrel instance running on same machine. If you want to fool around petrel data while in Python it should help you. Not doing so myself these days but in contact with people who do. It was not a public a while ago but might be today (SLB was saying their plan was to make it available to all users). Unsure. I would advise to ask about this facilities to your local SLB contact.

From what I know SLB has a plug in for Python IN Petrel. I could verify and vat back to you.
