In certain cases, conclusions about the growth conditions and origin of a mineral species based on XRD analysis are possible. A well-known example is the XRD determination of the aluminum-silicon state of order in the crystal lattice of K-feldspar. The splitting of 131 and 1-31 reflex shows which stage of the series sanidine - albite (from monoclinic to triclinic) is present. From this, the formation temperatures can be estimated. Sanidine is the high-temperature modification of K-feldspar and generally of volcanic origin.
