Reservoir Geomechanics
Having known that most of the hydrocarbon accumulations remain associated with compressional or extensional geologic environments, how could we go ahead with the assumption of a passive basin?
Won’t we end up with a horizontal stress anisotropy in such structural regimes, upon observing a substantial difference between the magnitudes of maximum and minimum total horizontal stresses?
How would the horizontal stress magnitude would remain to be directly related to the vertical effective stress and the Poisson’s ratio of the formation?
Can we approximate with Eaton’s (1969) approach in the absence of area-specific measurements?
