The February 2020 issue of Scientific American has an article, The enigma of aerodynamic lift, by Ed Regis (p. 44). The article discusses some unresolved issues pertaining to the theory of aerodynamic lift. John James Waterston in an 1845 paper, On the Physics of Media that are Composed of Free and Perfectly Elastic Molecules in a State of Motion, that was first published in 1892 by the Royal Society, beginning around page 19 discusses a gravitating elastic plane buoyed up by gas molecules. Does the paper by Waterston bear on aerodynamics?
