I am working on the effect of some materials on the serum concentration of dihydroartemisinin and chloroquine. I don't have easy access to HPLC and such equipment. I want to use a UV Spectrophotometer which is at my disposal to determine serum concentration of the two drugs. Is this okay?
Yes you can do it but first develop such UV method that the endogeneous substances present in the plasma should not interfere with the determination. You can develop derivative spectroscopic method for that
I think you will either need to purify the drugs or perform a significant amount of blank and control work. You will need to take blood that does not contain the drugs to make sure that none of the components absorb at the same wavelengths. You'll also have to do substantial dilution and filtration/centrifugation to get really good spectra.
