Of course it can. because medicines are based on natural products. Studies on drugs with proven antiviral efficacy can be looked at, or new ones can be tried.
Dear all, natural products affect viruses indirectly as they are boosting the immune system, with few exceptions such as if I remember well the lotus flower which attacks directly viruses. My Regards
Although natural products and traditional medicines have already shown some therapeutic effects on the COVID-19, but they are more involved in improving the symptoms of the disease than in definitive treatment.
Short answer: yes - though mainly holistic changes are required.
From my clinical work as a psychologist and psychotherapist and researching independently aspects of well-being, I know that many people look for a 'quick fix'. The vaccines seem to suggest such 'quick fixes' exist. And at times these solutions work - for a while. Given that in all these years of research flu-shots have to be repeated annually, with a success rate of about 67%, I doubt that the vaccines will be the final answer for humankind. Not least because viruses are living organisms and they keep mutating - not sure why this was big news worldwide in December 2020, when other researchers - which the 'expert' youtube removed - had already stated in May 2020 that they had found 5 strains of SARS-CoV-2. -
In my observation, whether its Covid-19-or -20 or -21..., the flu, lung-diseases, etc. the healthier our life-styles, the less diseases can impact us. This includes: enough sleep, exercise, healthy diet, relaxation/meditation/mindfulness.
A more alkaline diet gives viruses less of a chance - which is why washing our hands with soap - which is alkaline! - is important! Supplements which support the immune-system are beneficial.
Very central is our mind-set! People who are very stressed e.g. with fear of getting the virus, having lost their jobs, financial worries, feeling overwhelmed with educating their children from home, etc. are more likely to manifest over time various stress symptoms such as: lack of sleep, overweight, loss of hair, thyroid problems, ... - and a less active immune-system. Thus under stress people are more likely to fall ill or at the very least: experience a very compromised well-being.
Protecting people - through lockdowns and masks etc - has very limited success. Given that globally from 1st to 4th January 2021 over 420,000 abortions took place, compared to 1.4 Million births and 588,000 deaths - seems a painful statistic of how little family planning information has contributed to acting differently.
I do believe that vulnerable people may benefit from protecting themselves - through masks, isolation etc. However I also believe that for sadly too many people the lockdown restrictions are unbearable and are very detrimental to people's mental health and overall well-being.
2020 has seen globally an over 20% increase in suicides - but politicians and the media do not talk about that. -
In summary:
I don't think vaccines, lockdowns and natural supplements are the main answers needed. We need a shift in consciousness!
The use of natural products can improve homeostasis and positively affect the immune response to the virus. It is important what kind of natural product is used.
Natural products could be an important resource in the development of COVID-19 treatment, as they have already contributed in the past to treatments against other viruses, such as HIV, MERS-CoV, and influenza.
