Dear RG members, can the names of authors on a published article influence it visibility (submission process, read, recommendations, download, citations ..)? fact or myths?
The names of authors on a published article does not influence visibility of published articles but it depends up on the quality & new findings of the research work.
Author names do not influence visibility of articles in most of the cases. However, if an author is an established scientist or had done pioneering works, it does influence the visibility significantly. Friction stir welding is one my research fields. I have observed that the publications of two pioneering authors Prof. R.S. Mishra and Prof. Z.Y. Ma have gathered wide visibility and citations. The influence of their names in manuscript submission also can't be ruled out.
Dear Issac Dinaharan, thank you sir for your valuable contribution. I agree with you that when the scientific background is internationally recognized then the name may influence some aspects. You know that when you have the recommendation letter of an eminent scientist for a fellowship, your chances increase.
Thanks very much Dear Dr. Anton, I have received this and it was full of ideas and responses are yes and no. I appreciate your contribution to the discussion.
Yannick Stephane Fongang Fotsing I'm pretty sure that publications by famous researchers are generally read more often because more people recognize their names. These researchers also have better chances to publish in journals with high reputation.
Thank you very much Dear Prof. Edelmann for your valuable participation. I really appreciate your answer. But do you think that the before the blinding process after submission authors names can have influence on the Editor?
Yannick Stephane Fongang Fotsing I agree with Victor B. Asio in that some editors will certainly hesitate to reject a paper submitted by a researcher with a "big name". However, rejection of manuscripts occasionally happens to every scientist, including the most famous ones.
Dear Prof. Victor B. Asio I completely agree with you and share your view. If we know that some editors usually ask to their house friend to submit article when they don't have enough for a volume, then some time you feel that the article contain doesn't reflect the standard of the Journal. Sometime I just said......
