Can anyone clarify me regarding the use of ERIC PCR? Yes, the primers (ERIC1 and ERIC2) are basically used for the genotyping of Enterobacteriaceae. Can the technique be used for other bacteria too? I have used these primer sets for some non Enterobacteriaceae but get the result. Whenever I incorporated these data of ERIC PCR for the non-enterobacterial strains, reviewers asked the question of authenticity of using the technique for the non Enterobacteriaceae. Hence, please clarify my point, whether, the ERIC1 (5’-ATGTAAGCTCCTGGGGATTCAC-3’) and ERIC 2 (5’-AAGTAAGTGACTGGGGTGAGCG-3’) primer sets could be used for non-enterobacterial strains??
ERIC-PCR is highly reproducible and sensitive method to analyze the genetic relationship between different bacterial, including enterobacterial and non-enterobacterial. Although the ERIC element is mainly in Gram-negative enterics, the ERIC-PCR dose not fully rely on these element. You could check the following article.
