Our lab is going to conduct research into HBV-DNA. I do not know whether the viral DNA without any protein can infect humans or not. I have searched some papers, some of them said the bare HBV-DNA is equal to a viral particle and has infection characteristics.
Dear Miao Lee, I think, bare HBV-DNA is not equal to the HBV particle. Consequently, should be no reasons to be infected by DNA. Against, latent carriers of HBV near to you may represent much more real threat. If someone else suggests infectious characteristics of bare DNA and have got hepatitis after handling of HBV-DNA, it would be preferable to find latent carrier near to him.
Dear Miao Lee, also check the method, which was used to obtain HBV-DNA. You should be certain that no intact viral particles are presented in DNA preparations. You can also to pass vaccination against HBV.

1) Carefully read the method, which was used for isolation of viral DNA. If you deal with recombinant DNA, you should not care. You can use ELISA, to detect intact viral proteins (for example, HBsAg) in the samples.
2) Heating at 100 degrees is not good idea. DNA will denaturate.
3) If you have some doubts concerning the presence of virus in the samples, use principles of good laboratory practice (GLP) during experimental procedures and pass vaccination against HBV.
