I think you can do that using dynamic engines like Open dynamic Engine (ODE).

As an alternative to Matlab you might want to try

Maple and MapleSim: http://www.maplesoft.com/products/maplesim/

I think you can get a test version and see how it works

Also there are numerous programs devoted to such problems which are listed

in IFToMM:s webpages you can find description of 7 different, professional Multibody Simulation Softwares. The pages are operated by IFToMM:s Techical Commitee for Multibody Dynamics.
