This log-reduction terminology was developed by engineers as a way to express levels of decreased biological contamination in water by factors of 10 which could be easily converted to percent reduction and relates to the percentage of microorganisms physically removed or inactivated by a given process further express as:
1-log reduction = 90%
2-log reduction = 99%
3-log reduction = 99.9%
4-log reduction = 99.99%
Is the log-reduction terminology a part of the Chick's law and can it be ascribed to Dr. Harriet Chick? If the answer is no, can someone furnish me with an appropriate reference material of this log-reduction terminology so that I can properly cite it in my work.
Regards,
Jay.
