I'm studying the effect of NCO:OH to the durability of polyurethane adhesive bonding in hydrothermal aging condition. The durability of the PU adhesive increases as the NCO:OH ratio is increased but after a certain amount of NCO added (more than 1.7), the durability of PU adhesive in hydrothermal aging condition is decreased. The water uptake decreases as the NCO:OH ratio is increased but after a certain amount of NCO added (also more than 1.7), the water uptake is increased. Do you think this phenomenon has anything to do with chemical potential? How is it related with the water uptake?
