Any type of CHRONIC and CONTINUOUS irritation in any organ of our body can cause cancer.
If any continuous/recurrent wound stay in lip, gum, oral cavity etc. by any bacteria (perhaps resistant to common anti-microbials), the tissues of the wound area may be converted to cancerous tissue.
Hi Dr Dennis,, there may be some link between gum bacteria and oral cancer but that is not well established. Oral squamous cell carcinoma patients have higher amount of porphyromonous gigivalis and fusobacterium bacteria compared to healthy counter part. Oral bacteria can induce cancer by producing chronic inflammation, interfering with eukariotic cell cycle and signalling pathways.. Following link might help you.. Thanks

gus are an important source of energy or fiber for bacteria if modified with series of sugars and can cause health problems however, in the gum industry they are modified starches to give the desired consistency without addition of sugar and i do not think they are cancer causing agents
