HI guys, hope you are well. I am doing a systematic literature review on the use of VR in education and was wondering if I can use PRISMA 2009 instead of 2020 as it seems more easier to understand?
Yes, you cannot be faulted for using the 2009 version when the 2020 version already exists. However, take note of the possibility that a journal may explicitly require systematic review submissions to use the 2020 version.
Although you can use the 2009 version, there are nuanced changes that may appear small, but help to make implementation of PRISMA easier. Also I there is new reporting guidance. Therefore, I would recommend using the 2020 version from now on.
I agree with the other researchers. It is better to use the 2020 version of the PRISMA chart because in the end, the journal will have you update it if you use 2009 one. You can always ask here if you have any queries regarding the 2020 version
