Could I ask what do you mean at "centre"? Normally the crack is initialized at the centre of the root element. Then crack has to propagate continuously in XFEM. I'm a little confused about the "centre crack".

I'm talking about 3D. And by centre crack I mean a crack where both the crack tips lie inside the model, unlike an edge crack where one of the tips lies on the boundary.
