I am trying to model an edge crack in an Aluminium plate with thickness (400*400*200) on ABAQUS using XFEM. The crack opens fine (with a little ambiguity in the opening shape), however the Von mises stress field is ambiguous, there seems to be no stress concentration around the crack tip. I've attached snapshots here. Could someone tell me why this could be happening?

The crack was originally present in the undeformed configuration and its a stationary crack. The material considered here is Aluminium, so that makes it elastic. And I am using the XFEM Cohesive segments approach, maximum principal stress for crack initiation. Any thoughts on why this happens?
I have not used the XFEM approach but I observe that whilst your mesh is nice and regular on the end face of your structure, the mesh inside the crack involves some highly distorted elements. I can also see stress concentrations in the von Mises stress at these distorted elements in the figure you sent. If you reduce the maximum stress in the contour range then you should get a better impression of the real stress variation but I would be concerned that the results are being polluted by the poor mesh...

Thanks for your input! Reducing the maximum value of the contour helped me get the Von mises field I expected. The irregularity in the crack opening shape is still not clear though!
