Can Matrices be used to represents nonlinear transformations? If so, how?

Linear transformations can be represented as Matrix vector products and Matrix vector products can be expressed as linear transformations. So is a projection which can be represented as a matrix vector product for any subspace. How then can we use Matrices to represents nonlinear transformations?
