There is a wealth of human knowledge based on imagination/ observation/intuition in folklore, sayings , ancient texts etc. Is it possible based on current state of AI, ANN , Machine learning , Statistics, Cognitive research to artificially scan texts and correlate with web unstructured data to arrive at meaningful conclusions?. This is an explorative q and all are welcome to share their views. The basic idea is if we can determine if a given statement can be classified as Valid/ Not valid/Indeterminate.

Yes. Your surmise is correct...There are two aspects ...whether at all it really is old folklore and whether it stands true in the light of current information . Actually even more interesting would be to draw conclusion if given the knowledge at that time the saying/ statement was most plausible one.

I would be really interested in the findings. I would suppose that you could build something like genealogical trees of folklore. Maybe you could afterwards try to extrapolate to a "starting point" and start searching for a "true" background event. I do not think you could finance a research program like that, though... But it very much smells like fuzzy logic and machine learning. I would think, besides sitting down and working it out yourself, that would be the way to go. :)
