The key question is where your IPA would fit into the design of your mixed methods study. In particular, how would it be related to the qualitative potion of your overall project?
Thanks David, I’ve been engaged in mixed methods research for some time but have always used IPA as a single analytical approach. Would you consider using IPA as study 1 to then inform study 2 cross-sectional quantitative design (then present as a multi-method rather than mixed)?
The typical use for a qual --> QUAN is an exploratory sequential design, where the qual would be used to develop the content for a survey or intervention. This would be an unusual use for IPA, but it might be justifiable. There would be no problem in calling that mixed methods.
