I am simulating helix antenna in hfss, right now, giving excitation with 50 ohms port. When I see the results of Z parameter (real). It shows lower than 50 ohms. Do not understand, if it can be true or I am making any mistake. Please advise.
The impedance of an antenna depends on the feed line and the radiating element(s) and it doesn't always have to be 50 Ohms.
I know the impedance of helix antenna is around 140 ohms, I made coax and excite with 50 ohms. When I check the results my z parameter is starting from 11 ohms and getting less. I am sure, something is wrong, but cannot see what? Need advise here
If you can a show a model of your structure I will better understand what's happening.
If you expect ~140 ohms and see ~11 ohms, that is an order of magnitude in expectation! It may help to verify your coax model for 50 ohm compliance. I assume the measurements are at antenna port plane.
There is always mismatch between Power source (50 Ohm) and load. Assure min power loss using Matching Network in any shape
The impedance of an antenna can be anything from a few ohms to very high. A properly designed antenna will match to the impedance of the driving source for optimum power transfer. The 50 ohm value of the port is arbitrary and can be set to any value desired. Cable impedances come in many different values, such as 50, 75 and 300 ohms. Sometimes a low value antenna impedance is desired such as 10 ohms when connected to a low impedance solid state circuit.
