It is well known that (trietylamine) TEA the ion pairing reagent should be avoided with LC-MS.
However, there is also suggestions to use the triethylamine-acetic acid buffer for LC-MS purpose. But would it not give the same problem as the TEA?
Another thing, I have read that analysis of metal-sensitive analytes could be improved with medronic acid as a mobile phase additive. Do you have any concerns of using the medronic acid?
Do you mean TFA, trifluoroacetic acid? TFA has a reputation for ion suppression, although many, many, people use it without any issues. Agilent mentions using TEA for LC-MS: 5990--7413EN_5989_5672.qxd (agilent.com)
You may use TEA-acetic acid (triethyl ammonium acetate), as it is volatile- keep the concentration below 10 or 20 mMol.
As for Medronic acid- don't use it. It isn't volatile. It will accumulate in the mass spectrometer and make problems. Your mobile phase additives must all be volatile.
