I have just completed running jar tests in our lab and the results show that I can correct acidic pH and reduce the sulphates from our wastewater by lime treatement, thus forming gypsum sludge and other hydroxide sludge, this worked well with seeding. But I was concerned if I can use the sludge from my settling tanks after coagulation to cause more crystallization. I'm currently running a pilot plant.
It should be possible.
In your final system you could consider to make a system there you maintain the sludge in a tank and let the wastewater flow through with continuous addition of lime. This way you might hope to create large grains of gypsum which is easier to handle than very fine particles which are not easy to separate from water.
