I would like to screen my plant extracts for bioactivity and hence would like to perform brine shrimp lethality test but am not sure where to obtain good quality brine shrimp eggs from. Also what are the do's and dont's of this lethality test?
I think its the easy availability of brine shrimp embryos that make it a good test subject for some people. I've studied their physiology and they are quite unusual - their natural habitat is hypersaline. Whatever data you obtain from the artemia IC50 won't be highly relevant to higher animals. You're better off using rodents or cell culture. If you persist in your choice, you can buy some of the better brine shrimp from Sander's Brine Shrimp Company in Ogden, Utah, USA.
Am not sure if there are any specialized aquaculture institutes in and around the city i live in but i will definitely try to find out...thanks for the suggestion.
