You are referring to linear regression I guess. If all the variables (both independents and dependent) are continuous you can use linear regression. First of all run the analysis, get the residual and then test the residual. If the residual is normal then there is no problem you can go ahead with the analysis.

Just to clarify. My dependent variable is length of stay in the hospital. I have multiple independent variables, both continuous and categorical.
