However, some of my study variables were included in the principal research that have been done, so normaly, I don't have a problem with the variables and the incoherence between them.

We can always choose to modify a questionnaire depending on the circumstances dominating our study. In point of fact, you can remove, change , or add items to an already existing questionnaire provided that :

a) the number of items defining the targeted variable form an adequate and representative sample,

b) the reliability and validity of the modified version are carefully determined anew.

You can, as has been expressed above, alter existing surveys. In fact using tried and tested questions can be advantageous, as long as you fully understand the methodology used and any metadata that is associated with the question set. Don't reinvent the wheel would be my general advice.

What I would caution you on is that questions don't exist in isolation, they are framed by the survey. You don't say whether the earlier survey was constructed by yourself. If it was not your design, It is possible that it may have been carefully constructed in order to slowly develop a theme, that if launched into directly, may elicit only "socially acceptable" responses.

Alternatively, perhaps by accident rather than by design, the placement of questions in a survey may have an impact on the response to subsequent questions. This may not be relevant to your particular survey, but it can make direct comparisons between differently constructed either problematic or invalid, even where a specific question is identical in the two surveys.

For a wonderful comical example of this, look up the advice given by the fictional Sir Humphrey Appleby to a junior colleage on the issue of survey responses.

This can be done originally in accordance with the research being made. But it is better to make the initial questionnaire to cover all the data required, so the shared questionnaire is useful all in the research done .. Thx

Usually the distributed questionnaire should be used all the data in the study. But if some of the data from the questionnaires used may be in research with the requirement that the title and content be adjusted from the data used ...

I am very sorry to disagree with most of the view points, usually a questionnaire would be designed and tested for validity and reliability of the same (questionnaire/instrument) to measure the intended objectives/outcomes. In other words the entire set of questions and options are there to measure the objectives in total not in part.

So, in my view point it is not very logical/appropriate to use part of the information collected which is otherwise collected for a larger objective. There are some WHO developed questionnaires they will tell you how to use the instrument. Thanking you Ravi
