I used two tasks to measure attention (selective attention and sustained attention) in participants, and a separate working memory task, giving me 3 continuous variables. For my analysis I need to have a single attention variable as I want to run a regression to see if attention and other IVs predict my DV. I received a suggestion to combine these 3 variables for attention using factor analysis - how would I go about doing this? I ran a PCA but it produced 2 factors, which looked like selective attention (plus working memory) and sustained attention. Is there a way to produce a single attention variable? Or would it be better to keep them separate as they are different types of attention?
