Anybody please suggest can i use any established questionnaire like WOMAC with modification of time frame, addition or deletion of questions according to my population without any problem in publication and with authorities of that questionnaire? Actually it is changed but i am using few of question from there along with their scoring pattern. Will there any problem or anybody who has worked with knee osteoarthritis and developed his own questionnaire guide me?

many thanks for your answer and for sharing that informative link .i will search HaPI database and also try to design questionnaire according to our population although i am not clear either this data be considered valid for publication and thesis evaluation if i go wit scoring system for measurement?
right now i am trying to find my required survey but couldn't find yet. Then i will see if its need to be translated. Would yo please mind telling me is it necessary to find translated version of questionnaire if it is originally in English??? does translation is only for easy understanding?

In theory you can modify any questionnaire, but if it is not validated, obtained results are not "valid" by regulators. Publications could be more difficult, but if you explain and justify in detail the modifications, and those are accepted by the publisher, then you could publish.
As suggested above, I would go for a validated questionnaire for the pathology and for your country. Otherwise, I would try to validate a modificated questionnaire previously to be used in a larger clinical trial.

Would you please mind explaining what does it mean by validation??Actually if i am designing my own questionnaire and will use it in a case control study for collection of information, related to pain from patients, then how can i validate it? what should be the procedure? Like i want to ask pain condition in patients in last few months instead of last 48 hours as validated in WOMAC likert scale questionnaire. I will b egreat if you could help me.
My opinion is that you must send an e-mail to the creator of this scale and ask him for it.

I think that there are many q. now avaiable for osteoarthritis but if you have a new item or a new idea why not? you can have your own q. as long as you make it after approval of the ithical commity of your institute

Thanks fro the suggestion. You are right i can make my own but as time is very short for PhD and this process is time consuming. If i give application to approve my own i cant collect samples during this time. I will have to wait for approval. Secondly i am much concerned about its validation for publication purpose. Can you suggest me any q. which you come across and think is suitable for osteoarthritis pain data collection? i f yes please suggest me. I will grateful to you.

thanks. I have read that and i come to know it also contains WOMAC and it is free while womac is not. I am working with primary OA that is not because of any injury. should i still use KOOS? I am interested to relate amount of pain in knee with genetic variation in selected genes or other structural findings? Is KOOS apt for this purpose?KOOS score calculation is difficult. can it be easily used in a research study?
KOOS will work well for you. My patients fill in the questions/answers for themselves so that I don't have to be involved unless they are having difficulty interpreting the question.
Pain variation in OA is interesting and certainly very variable. If you can relate it to genetic variation that will be very interesting.
The neuropathic component of OA pain responds very quickly. Pain from inside the joint responds next then surrounding muscle pain and tendon pain is the slowest to respond.

KOOS scoring is not difficult. We do it manually
