I am in the process of finishing my master's thesis on elementary student with learning disabilities.I am using a sequential explanatory mixed method research and I will be conducting interviews after the oral survey.
Can I use a ready-made questionnaire to conduct an oral survey and at the same time make adjustments like changing the scale to a simple yes/no answer.
You can use the ready-made questionnaire to conduct the oral survey - but ensure that the questionnaire is relevant & based on your rigorous literature review.
Adjusting from higher order measurement scales e.g. Ratio, Interval, Ordinal that have better explaining power to lower order Nominal i.e. dichotomous scale (2 categories like Yes / No answer) is possible provided you have a strong justification why you need to change (you need to prepare such answer as examiners can ask such question during thesis review / viva).
Also ensure you adhere to all the needed research ethical compliance e.g. getting approval from questionnaire owner to adopt / adapt his / her questionnaire before use as well as obtaining informed consent from parents of those elementary students before data collection etc.
Gabriel Senanu Akakpo, thank you for your response. Am in the process of rewording questionnaires so that they can be understood by my participants ie.elementary students with learning disabilities.
