Yes you can try. alternatively hydration and dehydration technique can be employed to improve storage potential.
Priming with plant hormones may break the dormancy earlier. Microbial inoculants could also initiate it because they produce growth hormones.

I am not sure whether or not the same techniques are used for improving germination and storage. If physical barriers are involved, hormonal or water treatment may not be helpful for improving germination.
