Can I use a lower rated centrifuge than DNA extraction protocol advises?

Hello,

I need to extract DNA from soil. One of the kits I had in mind calls for a centrifuge rated for 15,000 RCF. The centrifuge I have is rated for 9660 RCF. Does anyone have experience with this problem? Can I make up for the lack of power with time? I am working on a limited budget so a great amount of trial and error is not a luxury I have.

Yes if the centrifuge is required for spin columns.

Maybe not if is required to form some kind of gradient phases, or to precipitate DNA.

To calculate the required time needed for a different force, you could use the formula

Time1*RCF1=Time2*RCF2
