Hello,

for my dissertation I have designed a questionnaire in which I am using 'established scales' that I cannot modify. They are a 9-point semantic scale, a 5-point Likert scale, and two 7-point semantic scales (+ others that are not relevant for my question). My question is: is it possible to run analyses between them (e.g., correlation, regression)? For instance, can I run an analysis between the 9-point semantic scale and the 7-point semantic scale? If yes, should I create dummy variables for both of them? Or how does it work? Is there something I can read to understand what I can/cannot do with those scales? I am a bit lost

Another doubt I have: a part from possible confusion among participants (is there a study that proves this?), which are the shortcomings of using scales with different lengths?

Many thanks,

Chiara
