So i am in a undergrad research program in our school, at the end we will need to present our project at a internal conference. But there is also an optional conferences at the main campus of our school. The mentor told me i can submit the same project to the two and it is fine. But I heard that i cannot resubmit work? Or it is because this is internal conference so it does not count as publication? The second conference will publish all the abstract though.
Another question is, since both conferences do NOT requires a paper. Can I write an paper for the same project then publish it in another "real" conference or journal? Because I do not really want to waste this project.
I meant internal conference as most presenters are students from our school.
Hello Wenqi - I think that your mentor has advised you appropriately on this. It is normal good practice to seek to turn conference papers into journal publications. Congratulations as an Undergraduate student that your project is seen to be worthy of publication. The feedback that you receive from conference participants can help to improve your project and subseqient article. Remember that the second more prestigious Uni -wide internal conference was only publishing an abstract. Choose a journal carefully for your proposed paper and check out other papers in the journal and the journal submission guidelines carefully. Good luck!

I would say you need to clarify with the journal website (or the office) on what is permitted - some journals will allow this with no problems at all, some will be more obstructive. So you need to find out about the particular journal(s) that you are interested in.
