I have graphene dispersed in ethanol and I have to use various amounts graphene into various other solutions so that I can know the amount of graphene into other solutions (for example in weight percent). So can I get the graphene in powder form by evaporating ethanol or by filtration or should I use it in the solution form as it is?
Your question is not very clear. Where you want to use the graphene powder? You can get it by evaporating the ethanol. If you want to use it as filler in polymer composites, you can put the powder in the polymer matrix and disperse it by mechanical mixing and sonication or evaporate the ethanol after mixing. To get good dispersion there are a number of tricks!!!
Kindly elaborate your question. As per my understanding from your question you can get the graphene by evaporating the solvent or by centrifuge to separate it from ethanol. Later you can use as a powder.
Secondly if you know the exact percentage of graphene in ethanol you can directly use the dispersion into other solutions. But check solvent compatibility in this before mixing.
Thank you very much C. G. Delides and Saqib Siddiqui. I want to use Graphene for gas sensing applications at high temperatures (from 200-450oC). Actually, it is the first time I am working with graphene. So I was not sure about its stability in powder form.
Now from your answers, one thing is clear that I can use it in powder form as well. I am using different amounts of graphene with various semiconductors. So in powder form it would be better because I would be able to know the exact amount of graphene in different semiconductors since I don't know the percentage of graphene in ethanol dispersion.
What you are looking for, I think, is a solid content determination. Mix your ethanol solution so it is evenly dispersed. Weigh aluminum weighing dishes, recording the tare weight and using a balance with 4 decimal place accuracy. add one gram of ethanol/graphene solution, and evaporate off the ethanol.
Graphene is stable in powder form, graphene oxide is not. (it will slowly reduce over time in water or in air). An issue commonly encountered is how to get graphene in water dispersion into a dry state. Spray drying and freeze drying are two common methods.
