I am using two types of traps to collect insects and would like to predict the species richness of different localities. Is it possible to generate rarefaction curves for both methods combined or should I do it separately.

Yes you can generate that rarefaction curve, given your data.frame is formatted accordingly and have complete set of data from both localities.

Obviously you generate data from different sources/ techniques definitely it will better if you generate results separately and finally make a single conclusion as both of the results must be at par with each other.
Thanks Mohan. You are right. I was not looking at it from the sampling effort point of view. I was only interested in the numbers generated from both trap types.
