Can I detect the activation or repression of Jak/STAT pathway in densovirus infected cockroach cells if I just have the STAT and PIAS sequences?

Cockroach genome has not being sequenced yet. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed slight (not significant) reduction of the STAT gene expression. I can clone and then check the SOCS expression and that its promotor is target of the STAT. Would it be sufficient? Or should I establish alterations in the intracellular localization of the STAT?
