I have discovered a putative insertion at a certain locus in a mutant Drosophila. The mutation was actually a second site mutation in a P-element hop line. Primary end sequencing of the same proposed the presence of gypsy element. I would like to know whether gypsy elements can hop from telomeres to euchromatic regions in presence of P-transposase, since, the line was actually a second site mutation during P-element hopping !!!

I am not entirely sure to understand your question properly, but in case you were asking whether the P transposase can mobilize a retrotransposon, the answer is (obviously) no. However, several transposable element families can be active at the same time, each using its own transopsition machinery.
Arnaud, the issue is actually confusing to me as well !!! I have a certain Drosophila mutant wherein I have found that a certain insertion of almost 8 kb may be present at the farthest end of the 5'UTR of a gene. The ends of the insertion resemble those of gypsy !!! However, the mutant was created when a P element was hopped in the 3R chromosome, whereas my candidate gene lies on 3L, and that too not very close to the telomere even(since I presume that a gypsy or gypsy-like element may be the insertion) !!! Hence my question !!! I have been trying to clone the region, but in vain actually.
I think the activation and relocalization is what the RT elements do all the time. If you wonder about the place of mobility, simply, it can be any where. It moves usually within the heterochromatin but there are many reports indicates that this mobility could be also near an active gene in the Chromatin. There are many factors that could case this activation. You can see attached article to see some of them
