South Africa has declared gender-based violence (GBV) as a disaster and it is also labelled s a second pandemic after Covid-19. Most of the GBV happens in the confined spaces such as inside buildings, deserted forests, isolated workplaces sometimes where there are no witnesses. It is difficult to anticipate where and when it will occur. As a results most government strategies are reactive and sometimes it is not known that gender violence is taking place until it turns into femicide or grievous bodily harm. South Africa has a national strategy to respond to GBV which calls for proactive approach to prevent GBV. The South African Police Service approach is reactive in nature as it comes after the violence has occurred. The victim empowerment centers as well are established as responsive institutions. GBV community campaigns and advocacy are not done in a integrated and planned manner to effectively prevent the gender violence.
I there any approach implemented anywhere where it has yielded positive results in preventing GBV?
