While CRGO is used predominantly in transformers and reactors, can it be actually used in stator stampings considering its loss in transverse direction to be comparable to non-oriented steel, thus still making overall core loss lower than with the latter ?
As far as my knowledge permits, permanent magnet generators are usually small rating machines. In general the permanent magnets are secured to the yoke, by screws. Yoke will be usually non oriented steel sheet of sufficient thickness rolled into a cylindrical shape and welded. The end covers along with bearings will be fixed to the yoke and yoke needs sufficient mechanical strength, which the conventional construction provides very well.
Now if we use CRGO stampings for the yoke, I think mechanical strength of the yoke will be at stake. But yes there is a solution to this also. Provide the magnetic path between the poles using CRGO stampings. In turn this magnetic path connecting all the poles shall be secured to another yoke of conventional type for the mechanical strength. But the economic viability and the size of the machine will be at stake.
