Cms (potato ring rot pathogen) is a close relative of bacteria with life cycle linked to nematodes (Cm subsp. insidiosum, Leifsonia poae, Rathayibacter sp.). Cms is quoted as nematode - transmitted in some sources, but I cannot find original reference.

Alexander, many thanks! I believed that Cmm inteact with nematodes. But there is no information in those articles about nematodes as Cmm vector. We had some positive tests 3 years ago, made by Konstantin Kornev and Mikhail Pridannikov, but Konstantin moved to VNIIKR and work was not finished. What about Meloidogyne incognita-related nematodes on potato plants, are they common?
Hi Alex, Mel. incognita "severnaya gallovaya nematoda' is widespread in Eu Russia both indoors and outdoors. Ask Mikhail Pridannikov and his PHD student = the daughter of Boris Borisov. This team is very skillful in Meloidogyne ahd now they have a good RKN living collection. Concernig the role of other roundworms in bacterial diseases of vegetables - it is practicaly whitespot, and this area deserve to be the interdiscipline project. Thet tech is very simple: screening of nematodes in vitro on the bacterial growth medium, taken from the diseased plant tissues from the infected nidus. But as you mentioned in your preface to this discussion, the result may reveal the "secondary" infection and not the primary infection agent (=klller of plant host), because at the later stages there are a lot of nematodes participating in destroying of tje dead plant biomass. It is a problem of the pathogenic process stages recognition for many nematode-caused diseases, e.g. for the pine wood wilt (PWD). I think to study the problem you first need the model of bacterial disease in your greenhouse, not sterilized previously, just taken from the local spot in vegetable field. Then Mikhail may study the list of nematodes dominated in soil around roots and you may test them on agar medium for bacterias they vectored.
Alexander, I care most of all about Cm sepedonicus and nematodes in field. At least 23% of seed stocks analysed in VNIIKR at 2010-2012 were infected by Cms. Infection is present in fields, but plant pathogenic bacteria normally cannot live in soil long without host plant or vector. We must discuss this with people from Potato Union.
The probem of seed potatoes analysis results from VNIIKR is that they are not supplied with georeferences, only the with code of the client. To study the problem, the potato tubers are not enough for the nematode analysis. It is necessary to work with fresh soil near tubers just in the infection spot
I agree. But we have enough potato seed growers with such problem to establish experimental plots near Moscow. Some of them have own Labs for diagnostics, and need only skilled experts to advice the experiment design.
\the Design is simple. Better to plan analysis in VNIIF with M. Pridannikov's team, where it is enough tech equipment to nematode biota analysis; small problem is that no cultures of the dominant nematode species may be multiplied, the study must be carried out "just from wheels", from soil around infected potato plants. Discuss the topic with Mikhail, maybe you will write the collaborative project with him
