Calea zacatechichi is an oneirogenic plant used by Mexican Indians to obtain divinatory messages during the sleep. It was observed that this plant induces sleep in cats; increases the superficial stages of sleep and the number of spontaneous awaking in humans (Mayagoitia et al., 1986). It’s a popular medicinal plant in mexico (Diaz, 1976). This plant doesn’t use only for sleeping disorder; it’s also use against gastrointestinal disorders such as an appetizer, cholagogue, antidysentery remedy…
I am pleased to send you this link about psychopharmacologic analysis of an alleged oneirogenic plant: calea zacatechichi
Thank You for your answer. The paper is very interesting. I want to use Calea zacatechichi as a herbal remedy for the treatement of Borrelioses and its co-infections. In the case of this infections the serotonin level may be reduced so sleeping problems appear.
All you need to do is first test-run if it has the ability to induce serotonin reduction process i.e. if it has an inhibitory property on serotonin production on the rate-limiting step enzyme, tryptophan hydroxylase. if it has, then you are sure to be able to use is an anti-sleeping agent.
I Think that Bobby Ogie is right. I would like Bobby shares the result of his experience with us about Calea zacatechichi as a herbal remedy for the treatement of Borrelioses and its co-infections.I am very interested.
